Star Trek 2009 Totally Awesome!

Kaja loves it, loves it, loves it. SCI-FI is back big!

Clearly the best live action adventure movie out this year so far. I predict it will be the movie of 2009 along with Up.

Yes, I still say this with Transformers II looming a couple of weeks away.

I have serious doubts that I will hear gray hairs at a restaurant synching up their schedules to see Transformers II three weeks after the movie was released. That's right. I am a witness to this. Everywhere I went I heard people talking about seeing Star Trek long after the initial release. That speaks volumes.

It had all the elements of a Great story which was retold.

1. Complex Characters
2. Multi Character Arc
3. Well Conceived Story
4. Respected Original Characters
5. Outstanding Film Score
6. Excellent Direction

JJ Abrams from Lost and Alias fame was an outstanding choice to herald in the revision of this iconic story. The writers, Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman, I just want to kiss. I get tired of bouncing out of the escape from silly holes in the script.

Honoring the past. The original cast of Star Trek, many believe the best, can rest well knowing their legacy is preserved.

Star Trek TOS cast then (1966) and now (2009)

Confession: I saw it 3 times in this economy. Do I need to say more?

Kaja's Rating:
5 soaring rockets

Summary: Great action, great acting, no story potholes, film rocks.
Eagerly waiting to own the Blue-Ray DVD.

Pixar's Up is Brilliant!

Well, they did it again. Pixar that is. They didn't knock this film out of the park. They knocked it out of the country. Any country.

I'm thinking about seeing this film again. That is HUGE for me. I have a keen sense of story and am, by nature, very analytical. I frequently get bounced out of the escape because of some hole in the story, an unlikely happening, or outright boredom.

Few film studios have this Pixar distinction. Turn out quality work every single time.

When I watched this film, I saw the tremendous care and ever-present love the Pixar staff had for it. Each character was crafted with care and the story was seamless.

There was the Tracy Spencerish 78-year-old exploration- dreamer-grump named Carl Fredricksen.

He was existing but not living until his independent lifestyle was threatened. Carl decided to dream big and take bold action.

Just when Carl thought he escaped from everything, destiny surprised him with frantic taps on his door. He discovered a co-traveler, Russell, the cheerful and persistent 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer.

Two unlikely people thrown together and on the journey of their lives.

It is a heart warming, comedic, adventure story. Everyone should see it. Why? Because this film touches and lifts you Up!

This is a story about people needing people. Carl and Russell found something extraordinary, each other. There are chock full of other treats in this film too.

This is a thrilling adventure that lifts you Up. That's just what I needed after losing my beloved kitty this week (that blog is still in Draft). I needed to fly and Up took me to the sky.

You know what. I made up my mind. I will see it again.

Kaja's rating:
5 out of 5 Rockets

Summary: This film soars into space.

Pixar's UP is UP!

Well, they did it again. Pixar knocked another film out of the park. This was so good that I think I will see it again.

When I watched this film, I saw the great care and love they had for UP

Belly Dancing WooHoo!!!

Today, I went belly dancing. Tomorrow, I won't.

Why? I need to recover, naturally. I had an exhausted blast. I'm not sure what the calorie burn is for this type of exercise. I just know my belly says "Lots."

Now, I'm so pumped I HAVE to find some music and more instructions. I happen to know how I looked. There was a full length wall mirror in front of me. I was a wiggly jelly roll lady, but I did not care.

This is exercise, right? I don't know anyone there... Well, yet.

I have to share this, in the spirit of the internet of course, invisible, unknown, etc., but the belly dance instructor actually said to all us oversized T-shirt wearing ladies, "I need to see your stomachs. Next lesson just wear a sports bra."

You know what my first thought was, "Uh huh. Yeah. Right!" Followed by a vocal, "What did you say?" Then in the haze of the confirmation I heard her say, "We're just ladies, right?"

This is a co-ed gym.

What the heck! I don't know those basketball, weight lifting, racqueball playing fitness comrades either.

I'm getting new sports bras.

p.s. This is my first blog. Hmmm feels nice.
