Key Design Element - Contrast
Contrast takes a room from Blah to Ooo La La.
The dining room above was designed by Lorena Polon. It's an excellent example of contrast in design. The marvel in this design is its simplicity. She used two colors - an earthy brown and bone.
Who cann't do that? Find two simple colors and create an amazing room. Can yo see the room above in navy blue and cream? I can. How about grey and black?
Now, I want to WOW or blow your mind with the next picture. It's a little more fussy, in terms of details, but the concept is the same. Striking contrast.
This library is in a colonial style home. It's not what you would expect to find in a colonial. However, that is from the standpoint of color. Everything else is true. Period furnishing and accents throughout, but that color... makes you stand up and take notice.
Contrast Color 1: Black - Walls, Furniture, Ceiling Fan
Contrast Color 2: Cream/Bone - Floor, Ceiling, Desktop
Accent Color 3: Gold for Drama - Mirror, Drape Pattern, Area Rug Pattern, Accessories
Remember - Contrast creates interest.
Also, the biggest contrast change in these rooms is the cheapest - paint. What a difference a couple of cans make!
