Lighting that Defies Description

Wall Piercings by Flo

Flo engineered these green, way out-of-the-box thought lighting fixtures.  For all the naysayers that believe green cannot be beautiful, rethink.

Artist Gaze - James Aarons

Art by Design

Dots and Spots

Ever thought about changing the design of your art?  Perhaps, you wanted to switch or re-weight the colors.  How about make it bigger?

James Aarons' Dots and Spots art offers that flexiblity.  In fact, Aarons' invites you to become the co-creator of the finished design.

Each dot and spot is indepdently hung.  None of them are connected.  You choose how many dots and spots you want and the colors.  You create the design. Aarons just produces the materials.

The dots and spots are small to large circles that he engineered for easy hanging.  I saw his art at the 2010 Palo Alto Clay and Glass Festival.  It was big, graphic, and beautiful.

I had not planned to stop at his booth, but my legs followed my eyes.  I stood in front of his work mesmerized, while attepting to figure out the hanging mechanism.  All of his circles were flat to the wall.  There were no visible protruding wall hanging apparatuses of any kind.  Aarons saw my admiration. He didn't walk over to talk to me until I left and came back in the space of 60 seconds.  Hey, I was intrigued. He asked if I needed help.  I said, "Sure.  How do you hang them?"  He said, "It's very simple.  Let me show you."  He took one of the dots off the wall and turned it over.  It was sheer genius.  The entire dot had a concealed rim.  Thus, the dot was hangable no matter how you turned it.  Talk about flexibility...

If you want to make your design larger, get more dots and spots.  If you need specific colors, request them.  If you need unusual sizes, he can customize that too.

What you create is only limited by your imagination.

Dots and Spots Design Idea

At the festival, he was selling a similar Dots and Spots design to the one above for $500.

Here are installed examples of his art.

Artist Gaze - Mark Goudy

Petable Art

Mark Goudy is a Contemporary ceramic artist to watch.  On July 11th, I went to a Ceramics and Glass Art Festival and had the excitement of seeing this stellar artist.

Goudy's art WOW factored every single person that passed his booth.  People had no problem encroaching each other's personal space to get a chance to pick up his work and touch it.

The scene was analogous to little kids when they see a pooch.  They get excited and want to pet the furry critter.  This is precisely what happened at Goudy's booth.  And that is precisely why I call it petable.  You have to touch it.

The texture of his work feels silky soft like a baby's skin.

The moment I clapped eyes on his work I knew one was coming home with me or at least I hoped.  This would require some snazzy negotiation with the Admiral.  We really did not set a budget for collecting this year, because the bathroom remodels blew up the bank. Yet, I was determined to find money somewhere.

I purchased this Burnished Form.

This piece colors held me spellbound.  I walked away from Goudy's booth twice and came back.  I felt as if I saw this pattern before, then, I remembered. It is reminiscent of a galaxy I saw on nasa.gov Spring 2009.  I know that date because I was gathering space images for a film project. Today, I returned to that well and searched through NASA's ethereal collection of space images and found it.

Artist Gaze - Carol Sideman

Watercoloring with Oil

California Coast

Carol Sideman has a unique painting style.  She thins oil paint and uses the primed canvas as part of the composition.  Meaning, you see portions of the raw primed canvas in her work.  She mastered watercolor-style painting with oil.  Her paintings are mostly California landscapes.

Artist Gaze - Paco Conti

Paco Conti

Paco Conti does striking, vivid colors phenomenally.  Love the women portraits.  Another unexpected pleasure found during my net travels.  There were no titles for his art on the website where I happened on his work.
